Guadeloupe's supplies are partly provided by cargo planes. The air freight that arrives on the French island in the Caribbean Sea is on so-called “slave pallets”. To move these pallets, PTB has built a custom-made 5-ton pallet truck with no fewer than three forks.
This aircraft pallet truck is equipped with three forks and is exclusively used for moving aircraft pallets. These load carriers are specially designed to move air freight through terminals as efficiently as possible.
A large part of the movements of these pallets is automated, with roller conveyors and automated high-bay warehouses. The pallets are often made of aluminum, because every kilo counts when it comes to air freight.
Because square meters are also expensive, the pallets are low. This leaves as much space as possible for freight. Conventional forks are often too high. Therefore, most aircraft pallet jacks are equipped with three forks with a low initial height. This way, despite the low insertion height, they can still carry a high weight.
The pallet truck is controlled from a standing position within the chassis. The driver is in a sideways position. This is the safest way because you drive both forwards and backwards during maneuvering.
The standing position within the chassis was the wisest choice for Logidom because aircraft pallets are often loaded high. The driver of the EPC50S stands against a backrest and operates the pallet truck with an electronic steering wheel and a handle.
The steering wheel is located on the left of the control console. On the right of the console there is a handle with the controls for the drive. The control is designed in such a way that the operator must always position himself in the safest way to operate the machine.
With three forks with a length of 2,600 mm, the pallet truck can lift 5 tons. The dimensions of the forks are precisely tailored to the air freight pallets that the customer uses.
