PTB awarded contract for platform trucks in Singapore

PTB Special Products secured a big order for the delivery of custom-made platform trucks for swapping Automatic Guided Vehicle (AGV) batteries. At the container terminal in Singapore unmanned vehicles are used to transport shipping containers. Switching the batteries of these vehicles ensures their 24/7 availability. The battery packs weigh approximately 7 tons and have to be placed inside the vehicles carefully. For this PTB has designed special 7-ton platform trucks.

65 million containers

By 2030 the new Tuas Mega port will replace the port of Singapore. This will increase Singapore’s annual capacity of handling 35 million shipping containers to 65 million. The AGV container trucks and PTB platform trucks will play an essential role in the efficiency of the second largest port in the world.

Accurate levelling

PTB Special Products was one of the candidates for developing custom-made platform trucks. In addition to the standard requirements such as lifting, moving and positioning the 7 ton batteries, key requirements included minimal deviation when switching batteries, and extremely precise controls.

Complementary technologies

Placing the batteries accurately is achieved by complementary technologies such as a side-shift function in the platform and remote radio controls. After a comprehensive R&D process, the Port of Singapore concluded that PTB, as a manufacturer of special equipment, excelled at quality and technical possibilities, and was chosen as preferred supplier for this project.
