In 2015, PTB Special Products received a request for a 12-ton aluminum pallet truck from Aleris Aluminum in Duffel, Belgium. In 2016, the construction of the special pallet truck began. The pallet truck is equipped with a wide forkboard and robust forks.
Aleris processes large aluminum rolls, which need to be placed in containers from the storage and production halls of Aleris. Previously, loading the containers took several hours, requiring the assistance of multiple staff members.
The biggest challenge during container loading is moving the rolls over a slope so that they can be driven into the container. Regular transport machines are unable to enter a small space like a shipping container via a 10% incline.
The PTB EPS120 accomplishes this with ease. The machine is driven up the incline by the operator, after which the 12-ton aluminum rolls are loaded into the container. This machine significantly reduces loading time, contributing to Aleris' LEAN strategy.
The machine achieves all this through its compact design and powerful motors. The machine is equipped with two 9KW drive motors. Combined with a strong battery, it results in a machine that effortlessly moves 12 tons of aluminum while consuming minimal power. The machine is used daily and charged only once a month.
Both Aleris management and the drivers are very enthusiastic about the machine from both a financial and operational perspective. The machine provides significant savings in man-hours for Aleris and makes the work of the loading team much easier.
